Nikon Coolpix 990

MELVILLE, NY, January 27 -- Nikon today introduced the Coolpix 990, a new, top-of-the-line digital camera that packs 3.34 megapixels of resolution and a 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens into a sleek, eye-catching design. Created for the serious photographer who values the quality and versatility that have made Nikon the camera of choice for professionals, with intuitive, easy-to-use features, the Coolpix 990 will hit retail shelves in April at an MSRP of $999.95.

At an unprecedented 2 frames per second full resolution image capture, there’s virtually no delay between shots. In cases where ultra-high speed is paramount, the Coolpix 990 offers 320 x 240 QVGA resolution at 30 frames per second for up to 80 frames. Still images can be brought to life with the new movie mode that shoots 40 seconds QVGA Motion-JPEG at 15 frames per second.

Nikon Coolpix 990

The Coolpix 990's 3.34 mexapixel CCD delivers true (non-interpolated) image resolution of 2048 x 1536 which offers easy cropping and incredible print quality. An uncompressed TIFF file size of almost 10MB lets users crop and print images that rival film in size.

A 50-step manual focus and full manual exposure mode allows for total creative control. Nikon’s 256 element Matrix metering and new 256 element Matrix white balance feature insures the best possible exposure and color balance in every shot.

The new USB interface makes downloading those three megapixel images to a PC or Mac lightning fast. The CompactFlash memory card is inserted from the side of the body so it can be removed without detaching the camera from a tripod.

Nikon Coolpix 990

The Coolpix 990 includes an exclusive Multi-Area auto-focus for quick composition without interruption, as well as a 7-blade iris diaphragm and versatile exposure control with four exposure modes including automatic, shutter priority, aperture priority and manual. Exposure compensation and auto bracketing capabilities are included.

Distant action is only a click away with the superbly-crafted 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 38-115mm coverage (35mm equivalent), and a virtually stepless digital zoom up to 4x magnification for a total of 12x or 460mm telephoto. Add a 2x teleconverter for an incredible 920mm telephoto performance.

Photographers who thrive on close-ups can get as close as 0.8 inches away from their subjects with the Nikkor lens' superb macro capability.

Nikon Coolpix 990

The Coolpix 990 accepts all optional Coolpix Lenses and accessories, including fisheye, wide-angle and telephoto for the greatest expandability and versatility in any situation.
