The Cyber-shot W90 features a Carl Zeiss 3x Zoom, 5.8 - 17.4 mm (35 to 105mm equivalent), F2.8 - F5.2 zoom lens that also features Sony's exclusive Super Steady Shot® optical image stabilization system. It is constructed of 6 elements in 5 groups with 3 Aspheric elements. When powered down, the lens retracts into the body and is protected by a built-in shutter, no lens cap is necessary.

Equipped with a low-light AF-assist lamp, the 9 Area Multi-point contrast detection autofocus system has a range of 19.7" (50cm) - infinity in normal mode and from 1.8" (4cm) - infinity in Macro focus mode.

The speedlight has modes for: Auto, Forced On, Forced Off and Slow-sync, with Red-Eye reduction. The working range at ISO 3200:approx. 21.7 ft. (6.6m) Wide, approx. 12.5 ft. (3.8m) telephoto

You can brighten up your photographs like never before with the optional HVL-FSL1B slave flash from Sony (about US$99.) It is designed to operate in sync with your Cyber-shot digital camera’s internal flash without having to connect a cable. Approx. coverage is from 11.5 ft. - 20 ft. (3.5m - 6.1m).

The HVL-FSL1B is equipped with a light control switch and is compatible with the red eye reduction and pre-flash functions of your digital camera. It includes a bracket to make installation a snap.

The eyelevel optical viewfinder provides 80 - 85% frame coverage but lacks dioptric adjustment. The two LEDs indicate flash and focus status.

The high resolution 2.5-inch color LCD has 115,000 pixels and can be used for preview, review and accessing the camera's menu system. The monitor can display a realtime histogram in record mode if desired.

Controls on the back: Top right are the Zoom lens controls, which also function as the Index and Magnify options in review mode. The playback mode "arrow" button. The Mode Dial has positions for: AUTO, Program AE, Movie, Snow, Beach, Landscape, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap and High ISO. The MENU button calls up and dismisses menu screens. The 4-WAY CONTROLLER is for navigating menus, changing settings and selecting playback images. The center button accepts menu selections. In record mode the 4-way buttons are used for: "Up" to adjust display settings, "Right" to change flash modes, "Down" enable selftimer, "Left" is for Macro focus mode. The Home button at the bottom allows you to see all of the functions of the camera, you can select the shooting mode, playback mode, or change the settings from the HOME screen.

On top you'll find: The microphone, Power on/off button and the shutter release button.

The I/O port is located on the bottom of the camera, and when connected to the supplied cable, provides an A/V output (video is NTSC or PAL, audio is monaural) and a USB 2.0 (high speed and PictBridge compatible) data port.

The W90 stores its data on ~31MB of internal memory and optional Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Duo PRO Cards. Memory Stick PRO media is required for capturing the MPEG-VX Fine mode 30fps motion video clips.

The W90 is powered by a Sony Lithium-Ion NP-BG1 3.6V, 3.4Wh (960 mAh) battery pack. Sony's Stamina technology provides power for up to 350 shots (with LCD on.) This pack is charged in the handy BC-CSG charger. It features folds away prongs, which is great for traveling and easy storage.
