The TTL autofocus system is high speed and low light capable with a focus-assist illuminator.

AF range:

Normal wide: 1.6 ft. (0.5 m) to infinity
Normal tele: 3.9 ft. (1.2m) to infinity
Macro wide: 4.7 in. - 2 ft. (12 - 60cm)
Macro tele: 2 - 4.3 ft. (60cm - 1.3m)

The built-in flash has modes for auto, fill, red-eye and forced off. The working flash range in wide is 2 - 15.4 ft. (0.6 - 4.7m) at ISO 140 and in telephoto from 3.9 - 8.9 ft. (1.2 - 2.7m) at ISO 140. The flash automatically "pops up" when needed when using Auto mode.

The electronic viewfinder (EVF) is actually a tiny LCD with 202,000 pixels of resolution. It can display anything on that can be displayed on the color LCD - just press the EVF/LCD button to swap the displays. The "i" button controls the amount of overlay information both the LCD and EVF.

The EVF automatically turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. To turn it back on just press any button. Both the EVF and LCD will "gain up," intensifying the live image to be useable in very dim light conditions.

Controls on the back: Upper right corner is Jog Dial which is used to adjust settings on the LCD (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc.) depending on the exposure mode being used. Next it the zoom lens control (also functions as the - and + control of image enlargement in playback). The "i" button controls the amount of information that is overlayed on the EVF/LCD image. The EVF/LCD button (not shown) toggles the active display. The Review button puts the camera into playback mode. The 4-way controller lets you navigate the onscreen menus, pressing the OK button in the center will accept changes. And along the bottom you can see the dedicated Delete button, the Menu button (calls up and dismisses the menus), and the Share button (lets you select images for printing, e-mailing, or to mark as a favorite.)

On top you'll find various controls. Top right is the shutter release follow by three buttons that control the Flash, Focus, and Drive modes. On the left is the Power On/Off button, and the Mode Dial.

The Mode Dial has positions for: Auto, Program AE, Aperture priority, Shutter-speed priority, Manual, Favorites, Movie, SCN, Night Portrait and Sport exposure modes. The Scene position allows you to select one of 14 pre-programmed settings optimized for specific shooting conditions and subjects.

I/O ports are located on the right side, underneath a protective rubber cover. The USB 2.0 port works with the Kodak EasyShare Software to make image downloading fast and easy even without the use of an optional EasyShare Camera or Printer Dock. The USB cable can also be plugged into any Pictbridge compatible photo printer for direct, computer-less printing. This port also facilitates the A-V output cable with selectable NTSC or PAL format and audio for connection to a TV set.

There's also the DC IN 3V jack for an optional AC power adapter. Not shown is the docking connector on the bottom of the camera.

The Z612 Zoom comes with 32MB of internal memory and is equipped with a SD/MMC card slot that accepts any capacity SD or MMC flash card.

Power is supplied by the included KLIC-8000 3.7v 1600 mAh Li-ion battery pack, one CRV3 or the optional Kodak NiMH battery pack that is included with the Kodak EasyShare Camera and Printer Docks. The battery is charged out of camera in the handy Kodak Rapid AC charger.
