The autofocus range is:

Normal: 24 inches (0.6 m) to infinity in wide angle, 6.6 ft. (2 m) to infinity in telephoto.

Macro close-up: 4.7 to 27.6 inches (0.12 to 0.7 m) in wideangle and from 3.9 to 6.9 feet (1.2 to 2.1 m) in telephoto.

Z740 camera owners can also take advantage of a range of accessories for additional creativity, including a 0.7x wide-angle lens and 55mm circular polarizer and neutral density filters. The included lens adapter / shade allows you to mount the optional wide-angle lens or 55mm filters on the camera.

The built-in flash has modes for auto, fill, red-eye and forced off. The working flash range in wide is 0.6 - 4.9m (2 - 16 ft.) at ISO 168 and in telephoto from 2.0 - 3.7m (6.6 - 12.1 ft.) at ISO 168. The flash is manually "popped up" with a button on the top.

The eyelevel finder is really an electronic viewfinder (EVF) which is a small 0.2" 201,000 pixel color LCD with a magnified eyepiece. It can display anything on that can be displayed on the color LCD - just press the EVF/LCD button to swap the displays.

The EVF automatically turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. To turn it back on just press any button. Both the EVF and LCD will "gain up," intensifying the live image to be useable in very dim light conditions.

Controls on the back: Upper right corner is the zoom lens control (functions as the - and + control of image enlargement in playback). The "i" button controls the amount of information that is overlayed on the EVF/LCD image. The EVF/LCD button toggles the active display. The Share button lets you select images for printing, e-mailing, or to mark as a favorite. There's a dedicated Delete button to erase images during review. The Menu button calls up and dismisses the menus. The Review button puts the camera into playback mode. The 4-way joystick in the center of the Mode Dial lets you navigate menus and accept selections by pressing it inward.

The illuminated Mode Dial has positions for: Movie, PASM (Program AE, Aperture priority, Shutter-speed priority, Manual), Scene, Auto, Sport, and Portrait exposure modes. The Scene position allows you to select one of 18 pre-programmed settings optimized for specific shooting conditions and subjects.

Controls on the top: the shutter release, popup flash release (not shown), Drive mode button to select selftimer, or one of two burst modes, the Focus mode selects macro, landscape (infinity) or normal, the Flash mode button cycles through the Auto, Red-Eye, Fill and Off modes. On the left is the Favorites - Power Off - Record switch and the speaker for camera sounds and movie playback.

I/O ports are on the sides: The USB 2.0 port is located inside the SD card compartment and works with the Kodak EasyShare Sofware to make image downloading fast and easy even without the use of the optional Easy Share Camera Dock or Printer Dock. The USB cable can also be plugged into any Pictbridge compatible photo printer for direct, computer-less printing. This port also facilitates the A-V output cable with selectable NTSC or PAL format and monoraul audio for connection to a TV set.

On the other side is a 3V DC IN jack for an optional AC power adapter. Not shown is the docking connector on the bottom of the camera.

The Z740 Zoom comes with 32MB of internal memory and is equipped with a SD/MMC card slot that accepts any capacity SD or MMC flash card.

Power is supplied by two AA type batteries, one CRV3 or the optional Kodak NiMH battery pack that is included with the Kodak EasyShare Camera and Printer Docks. Kodak recommends against the use of alkalines - and so do we - use high capacity NiMH rechargeables or the rechargeable CR-V3 batteries instead - they'll save you money!

This is the Kodak EasyShare Printer Dock Series 3. It performs all the same functions as the EasyShare Camera Dock plus it's a high quality 4x6-inch dye sublimation printer. All you need to do is select a picture on the camera's LCD and press the PRINT button, no computer needed. It can also be connected to your PC and used with other graphic programs.
