Snapshot exposure mode showing Flash is Auto, Single shot, Matrix metering and spot focus.
The image size is 2560x1920 and Fine quality has been selected, we can shoot 444 more
frames at this size/quality, Exposure
compensation +0.0EV and the battery is fully charged.
When you half-press the shutter release the camera sets the exposure and locks the
focus, if successful the AF target marks turn green.
The Best Shot mode features different pre-programmed exposure scenes to make photographic tasks easier.
You select the scene that best fits your needs and the camera makes all the necessary
settings for you.
There are 22 different Best Shot scenes:
Portrait, Scenery, Portrait w/Scenery, Children,
Sports, Candlelight Portrait, Party, Pet, Flower, Natural Green, Soft Flowing Water,
Splashing Water, Sundown, Night Scene,
Night Scene Portrait, Fireworks, Food, Text, Collection, Monochrome, Retro (Sepia),
and Register Favorites (custom build your own Best Shot scene)
The Aperture-priority mode allows you to select the desired aperture and the camera
automatically matches the proper shutter speed. Available aperture settings are:
F3.3, 3.7, 4.4, 5.2, 6.2, 7.4 - at wide angle (F3.4 - F7.4 tele), aperture
values vary at different optical zoom focal lengths.
Pressing the SET button will bring this assistance screen up
on the LCD to help you select the right setting and shows the corresponding shutter speed
and exposure value.
Small aperture numbers yield shallow depth of field (range of focus), large aperture numbers
yield much larger depth of field.
The Shutter-speed priority mode allows you to select the desired shutter speed and the
camera automatically matches the proper aperture. Shutter speeds range from
60 seconds to 1/2000 second plus Bulb in Shutter-speed priority and Manual mode.
1/8 to 1/2000 second in Aperture priority, Program Auto and Best Shot.
Pressing the SET button will bring this assistance
screen up on the LCD to help you select the right shutter speed and shows the corresponding
aperture and exposure value.
Slower shutter speeds allow subjects in motion to blur, faster shutter speed will
effectively "freeze" any motion.
Manual exposure mode lets you set both the shutter speed and aperture as desired.
The EX-P505 also has a ND (neutral density) filter option to further decrease the light
by 2EV so you can use different aperture values even in bright light conditions.
Pressing the "EX" button brings up this shortcut menu to quickly change the White balance
(auto, daylight, cloudy, shade, incandescent, fluorescent 1/2, flash, manual), ISO speed
(50, 100, 200, 400), Metering mode (Multi-pattern, Center-weighted, Spot) or AF Area
(Center, Multi, Free) mode.
Press the DISPLAY button to cycle from normal overlay, Histogram, Ex Finder or no overlay.
The Ex Finder superimposes a wealth of camera settings on the screen in a real-time
graphical user interface. Flash mode, Focus mode, White Balance, Focal Distance
(depth of field), Histogram, ISO speed, Color adjustments, Aperture, Shutter speed
and Exposure Compensation value. To be honest, I find it so distracting that you can
hardly see your subject and doubt that you will use it very much...
The realtime Histogram graphs the combined RGB channel as well as the individual color
channels. Once you learn how to "read" a histogram, it can tell you at a glance
whether the image is properly exposed or not.
Animated look at all of the exposure modes: Snapshot, BestShot, Aperture AE, Shutter-
speed AE, Manual, Past Movie, Short Movie, BestShot Movie and Movie. This screen also
demonstrates the Icon Help - a highly visible label that displays momentarily as the
settings are changed.
Up to 30 seconds of audio can be attached and played back with still images.

There are four different Movie modes:
- Movie - Normal movie recording mode, press shutter to start and again to stop
- Past Movie - Uses a 5-sec buffer that is continually updated. Pressing the shutter
