![]() Click on the Coolpix 4800 to take a QuickTime VR tour Nikon's first entry-level "Super Zoom" camera (as of 9/2004), the Coolpix 4800 combines a 4.0-megapixel imager with a high-quality Nikkor ED 8.3x optical zoom, which covers 36-300mm (in 35mm equivalence.) This is a simple point-n-shoot camera that offers the ease of fully automatic operation, with the option for users to choose from 11 pre-programmed scene modes (Party/Indoor, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Dusk/Dawn, Night Landscape, Close up, Museum, Fireworks, Copy, Back light, Panorama assist), or use one of the 4 Scene assist modes (Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Night Portrait), which offer a selection of framing assist options to help users compose pictures with framing guides displayed. The Coolpix 4800 features a 1.8-inch (118,000 pixel) TFT color LCD monitor, which can be used to frame pictures, review captured images, and navigate the Menu system. When bright light conditions make it difficult to use the LCD, you can switch to the camera's EVF (Electronic ViewFinder.) This is a tiny LCD (0.44 in.) with 235,000 pixels of resolution. It can also be used to review images, and navigate the Menu system.
Other features include 13.5MB of internal memory and a card slot for optional SD
memory cards. Advanced 5-point auto focus system with AF-assist illuminator.
Macro shooting capability as close as 0.4 inches (1cm), Best Shot Selector (BSS)
takes a series of shots, then automatically picks and records the clearest one.
Three Movie modes with sound, including TV movie (640x480 VGA), Small size
(320x240), and Smaller size (160x120.) The length of a movie is limited only by
the capacity of the internal or SD memory. The camera is powered by a proprietary
EN-EL1 Li-ion rechargeable battery (supplied).
