Record Screens & Menus


(All screens can be displayed on either the EVF or the LCD.)

The AUTO screen display. This is the "point-n-shoot" mode where the camera sets everything for the user automatically. The only menu options are the image size/quality, selftimer, and LCD/Setup options.

After half-pressing the shutter release the auto focus and exposure is set. The "[   ]" in the center is where the autofocus performs its calculations, and the flash symbol indicates the flash is ready and will fire.

Turning the Mode Dial to the Scene position lets you select one of four pre-programmed exposure modes (Portrait, Landscape, Sports, and Night.)

The menu options for Scene mode include the usual image size/quality, selftimer and setup items as well as the Scene Position sub-menu, which allows you to change the desired scene mode.

The Manual record mode isn't really a true manual mode but it does give you access to a number of settings not available in Auto mode.

Manual record menu:
    QUALITY - Select image size: 4M Fine, 4M Normal, 2M, 1M, 0.3M
    SELF-TIMER - Enable 10-second selftimer
    FLASH - Adjust the flash output -0.6, -0.3, 0.0, +0.3, +0.6
    SETUP - Set LCD backlight or enter SETUP menu
    EV - Exposure compensation -2.1EV to +1.5EV in 0.3EV steps
    WB - White balance: Auto, Fine, Shade, Daylight Fluorescent, Warm White Fluorescent, Fluorescent (Cool White), Incandescent Light
    A.PRIORITY - Auto or F2.8, F4.8 or F8.2
    SHARPNESS - Soft, Normal or Hard

Movie record mode screen. The S3100 does not record audio and the optical zoom cannot be used during movie recording. Movie resolution can be 320x240 or 160x120 at 10 frames per second. 320x240 movies can be up to 60 seconds in length, 160x120 movies can be up to 240 seconds.
