The DiMAGE X50 is an automatic "point-n-shoot" type camera, the exposure is handled by a Programmed AE system. The white brackets in the center indicate where the autofocus zone is located. Other icons indicate flash mode, image size and quality, drive mode and the approx. number of pictures remaining.

Sliding the Mode switch to the Portrait/Scene position gives you access to these pre-programmed scene modes: Portrait, Sports, Landscape Portrait, Beach, Super Macro, Night Portrait, and Text.

The DiMAGE X50 has a very respectable macro focusing capability. The normal focusing range is from 3.9 inches to infinity at all focal lengths. If you need to get even closer, simply select Super Macro mode and get as close as 2.4-inches.

The Multi frame capture mode lets you record 9 successive images with one push of the shutter release. These images are then saved as one 2560 x 1920 size image.

Image size - Choose from 2560x1920, 2084x1536, 1600x1200, and 640x480
Quality - Fine, Standard, or Economy compression levels
White Balance - Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, and Fluorescent
Key Func. - Allows you to pick a function for quick access on the 4-way selector: Flash mode, Exp. comp., Drive mode or White balance.


Sensitivity - Auto (64-200), 64, 100, 200, 400
Metering mode - Allows you to change the metering from MultiSegment to Spot
Exp. comp. - ±2 EV in 1/3 EV steps
Auto reset - Reset all parameters at power off; On / Off


Color mode - Choose from Color, Black&White, and Sepia
Voice memo - On / Off (Record annotation after image capture)
Date Imprint - On / Off (imprints date/time on image)
Digital zoom - On / Off
Inst.Playback - On / Off (review image after capture)

In Movie mode you can record full motion video in 320 x 240 or 160 x 120 resolution at 15fps without audio. The length of these movies are limited only by the amount of memory on the card being used.

Recording mode - Select Movie or Audio
Frame rate - Choose 30 fps or 15 fps
Movie mode - Standard movie or Night movie


White Balance - Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent
Exposure Compensation - Override metering +/ 2.0EV in 1/3EV increments
Color mode - Color, Black&White, Sepia

LCD brightness - Adjust color LCD back light
Format - Format SD Card
File # memory - Remembers file number of last image captured (On, Off)
Folder name - Standard or Date form
Language - Set camera menu Language


Audio signals - Select volume of audio 1, 2, Off
Focus signal - Select focus lock sound theme 1, 2, Off
Shutter FX - Choose shutter sound theme 1, 2, Off
Volume - Adjust volume of all camera sounds 1 (low), 2, 3 (high)
Power save - Auto power off: 1, 3, 5, 10 or 30 minutes


Reset default - Resets camera functions to factory defaults
Date/Time set - Set time and date in internal clock
Video output - NTSC or PAL
Transfer mode - Data storage, RemoteCamera, or PictBridge
