Note: Because the D-540 has no video-out port, the color screen images presented on this page
have been copied from the D-580, with any differences noted; the black and
white screen images were copied from the D-540's Operations Manual.

xD-Picture Card for another 181 pictures. The zoom bar also shows up
momentarily whenever the zoom is changed.
Macro mode is activated by touching the up button of the 4-way controller in record mode;
Super macro mode is activated from the camera's menu system.
When either Macro focus mode is enabled the color LCD automatically turns on so
you can use it as the viewfinder. The color LCD is the only information
display so whenever you change flash modes or enable macro mode or self
timer the screen will come on for a few seconds.
Movie recording: there are 36 seconds of recording time remaining,
maximum length of each clip is limited only by available memory capacity.
Sound is not recorded; the zoom may
be used during movie recording.
The OK/MENU button accesses the CAMERA CONTROLS:
Image Size/Quality - Sets file size/resolution(SHQ 2048x1536, HQ 2048x1536, SQ1 1600x1200, SQ2 640x480) MONITOR OFF - Turns off the LCD monitor. MODE MENU - leads to three sub-menus for CAMera, CARD and SETUP:

Language - Selects language for on-screen display. Rec View - If ON then immediately view image after capture File Name - Changes how the file numbers are assigned: Reset or Auto(sequential) Pixel Mapping - Checks the CCD and image processing functions. LCD Brightness - a sliding scale for adjustment Time/Date - Set the internal clock
Touching the 4-way controller's left button in recording mode calls-up the shooting mode virtual dial. Touch the left or right buttons of the 4-way controller to rotate the virtual dial, selecting a shooting mode; touch the OK button to activate it. Shooting modes are:
