The Photosmart 945 is HP's new Top-of-the-Line digital camera for 2003. It features 5-Megapixel resolution and a powerful 8x Fujinon optical zoom that produces outstanding close-ups and brilliant photos of distant objects. The Photosmart 945 is HP's first digital camera to feature Adaptive Lighting Technology that enables digital cameras to produce photos that look more like what consumers see. The color electronic viewfinder lets you frame your shots with "through the lens" ease just like an SLR camera. The 2-inch color LCD monitor can also be used for framing or review of images.

The Photosmart 945 captures still images up to 2608 x 1952 pixels in size which can be printed out to 13" x 19" and larger. You can directly output to compatible HP photo printers using just the USB cable. It also features HP Instant Share technology, which allows users to snap a photo and then select on the camera where the photo will go the next time the camera is connected to a computer or optional HP Photosmart 8881 digital camera dock. Audio notes up to 30 seconds in length can be added to still images and the camera also captures up to 60 seconds of 288 x 208 motion video with audio at 15fps.

HP Adaptive Lighting Technology is a breakthrough technology that permits digital cameras to produce photos that look more like what we see with our own eyes. It balances brightness relationships between bright and dark areas in a photo, preserving gentle contrasts but compressing harsh contrasts. In doing so, some local areas in a photo are lightened and other areas are left alone. Professional photographers do this by hand in the darkroom by "burning and dodging." Image scientists call this "adaptive scene re-lighting", or digitally adjusting the various sources of light that illuminate a scene. This exclusive HP Adaptive Lighting Technology is included in PhotoSmart 945 camera's digital flash feature and can be switched "low", "high" and "off" based on the user's needs.
