The C-5000 Zoom employs an Olympus 3x zoom lens (38-114mm equivalent in 35mm
photography). It features a
seamless Digital Zoom of 12x (3x optical and 4x digital combined). The aperture
range is f2.8 - f8 (Wide angle) and f4.8 - f8 (Telephoto) and is adjustable in 1/3 EV
steps.
The focusing system is an iESP AF (autofocus) TTL system using contrast detection.
The default mode is Spot AF, manual focusing by gauge.
Standard AF 19.7" – Infinity (50cm – Infinity)
Macro Mode 7.9" – 19.7" (20cm - 50cm)
Super Macro Mode: 1.6" – 7.9" (4cm - 20cm)

The eyelevel viewfinder is a real image zoomed type, it does not have any dioptric
adjustment. The two LEDs indicate flash and focus status.

The built-in flash has Auto (low and backlight), Red-Eye
reduction, Fill-In, and Slow shutter sync modes. The working range
in Wideangle is 30 in. - 12.8 ft. and in Telephoto it's 8 in. -
7.5 ft at ISO 100. The flash charging time is approximately
seven seconds with a fully charged battery.

Thanks to the TTL hot shoe you can easily attach an external flash like the
new and compact Olympus
FL-20. Or the more powerful FL-50 with bounce flash for
more pleasing looking photos and a motorized zoom head that matches the focal length
of the zoom lens.

The three buttons across the top are: Flash mode (Delete in playback), the Macro / Spot
metering button (Protect / Unprotect in playback), AEL Auto Exposure Lock / Custom (Rotate
image in playback.) Next to the LCD is the Monitor button, it turns the color LCD on/off
and controls the amount of information overlayed on it. The 1.5" color LCD monitor has
114,000 pixels of resolutionand can be used for preview, review or menu operations. The 4-
way selector is used to navigate the menus, change the shutter speed, aperture or exposure
compensation values in record, in play mode it lets you select images for display. The OK
button calls up the onscreen menus (see next 2 pages) and accepts menu selections.

On top is the Mode Dial (AUTO, Portrait, Sports, Landscape, Night, Night Portrait, Movie,
MyMode, A/S/M, Program AE, Play), the Power switch is built into the base of the Mode Dial.
The shutter release button with the zoom control around it (which also functions as the
thumbnail index and zoom control in play mode). On the angled back corner is the Quick View
button for image review.
The I/O ports are on the side:
Video Out for connection to TV. Video format is user selectable for NTSC
or PAL.
USB 1.1 port for image downloads to the host computer
DC IN for optional AC power supply

Images and movie files are stored on xD-Picture Card media. The camera comes with
a 32MB xD-Picture card and is compatible with all capacity xD cards. We have tested it
with the latest 512MB size card and it works great.

The C-5000 Zoom is powered by the proprietary 3.7V 1090mAh Li-10B Li-ion battery.
Olympus includes the external LI-10C AC charger. The maximum charging time is two hours.
Olympus does not specify the battery life figures for this camera.

Olympus includes the handy RM-2 infrared remote control.
Useful for both self-portraits and for
tripping the shutter when you have the camera in macro mode and on a tripod. Note
that the receiver port is on the front but you can often reflect the infrared beam
off of something in front of the camera to use it from behind.
