The GV-10 is equipped with a F2.8, f = 4.6mm (equivalent to 35mm in 35mm format) lens. It is a fixed focal length (non-zoom) lens but it does have a 2X digital zoom that enlarges the central 50% of the image to produce a 640x480 picture. The aperture is automatically selected at F/2.8 or F/9.7.

This is a fixed-focus lens with a normal range of 23.6" (60cm) to infinity. Enabling Macro mode lets you focus on objects as close as 3.9" (10cm.)

The eyelevel optical real-image zoom viewfinder has a field of view of approx. 84% of the captured image. It has no diopter adjustment. The LED flashes amber when the flash is charging and stays steady amber when ready to fire. It flashes green when recording a movie or the selftimer is counting down. It flashes red to indicate a memory card problem.

The built-in flash has modes for Auto, Fill-flash or Flash Cancel. The working range of the flash is 2.0 to 6.6 feet (0.6 to 2 meters.)

Controls on top: flash mode (index playback), digital zoom (2x zoomed playback) and white balance (delete image.) Each of these buttons serve a secondary function in playback mode as indicated in parenthesis. The large silver button is the shutter release and below it are the "-" and "+" buttons for navigating the onscreen menus and setting the exposure compensation.

Controls on the back include the Power On/Off switch, Mode Dial and Display control button.

The Mode Dial has positions for Selftimer, Movie, Sequence Recording, BEST Shot, Auto Record, Playback, Set Up and connect to PC. The pointer is a LED that flashes green when the camera powers up or down, it's steady green when camera is ready to shoot and it flashes red when the batteries are low.

The Display button turns the color LCD on and off and controls the amount of data that is overlayed on it.

On the back is a 1.6" color TFT LCD monitor which can be used as a live viewfinder or for image review or accessing the menu system.

The resolution is 61,380 pixels; 279 x 220.

The I/O ports are found behind a rubber-gasketted door on the side of the camera and include a USB port for transferring images to the computer and a 6v DC INput jack.

There is no Video Out capability.

The GV-10 is equipped with a CompactFlash card slot and is supplied with a 8MB card. It's compatible with any CF card from 4MB to 1GB.

This is the door latch for the combination battery and CompactFlash compartment. It has a safety release button that must be activated before you turn the big knob to open it. Seen above and below is the rubber-gasketted door in the open position.

Power is supplied by four AA type batteries, Alkaline, NiMH or Lithium type may be used. Casio claims the battery life for recording as: 170 minutes (850 images) with alkalines, 170 minutes (850 images) with NiMH and 340 minutes (1700 images) with lithium cells. Playback battery life is: 240 minutes with alkaline, 220 minutes with NiMH and 370 minutes with lithium.

Casio recommends the replacement of the O-ring gaskets every two years to maintain the water and dust resistance integrity. Note that the GV-10 is *not* an underwater camera and should not be submerged in salt water, pool water or hot springs. It is perfectly safe for use in a rain storm or with wet hands. If you do get salt water or sand on it you can hold it under a faucet and then dry it off.
