Olympus D-380

This is the D-380's Record mode screen showing onscreen data overlay. Starting in the upper left corner the encircled 'lightning bolt' indicates the flash is cancelled manually. It can also be just a 'lightning bolt' for force flash, 'bolt' with auto (default) is Auto flash 'bolt' with 'eye' is forced flash with red-eye reduction, 'lightning bolt' with "SLOW" indicates slow shutter sync flash and it can add "red-eye reduction" to that mode. The current Image quality setting is "SHQ" indicating 1600 x 1208 image size with standard JPEG compression. The green "82" indicates the number of pictures remaining at the current size and quality setting.

This is the recording screen when you are in the Movie mode - note the little icon of the movie camera in the upper right. The flash is disabled and the default setting is for HQ quality (320 x 240). The green 410" indicates that there is enough memory on the card to record 410 seconds of video.That is not how long it will record if the shutter button is depressed - it is max Movie space on the card at 320 x 240 Movie Mode. The maximum movie recording per clip is 15 seconds in HQ and 60 seconds in the SQ mode (160 x 120).

"DRIVE"(up), "Quality"(left) or "Function"(down) and are The "MODE MENU" (right) are accessed by way of pushing the navigation control's corresponding directional arrow buttons.

The screen below appears when the right arrow option is selected on the 4-way navigation switch.

The Record Options under the Camera sub-menu are:

• Exposure Compensation "+" or "-" 2 stops in .5 stop increments

• Metering Choose iESP Auto metering or Spot metering

The Option under the Picture sub-menu (not available in Movie Mode) is:

• White balance - Automatic, Sunny, Cloudy, Incandescent or Fluorescent

The Record Option under the CARD sub-menu is:

• Card Setup Formats the SmartMedia card erasing any images on the card

The Record Options under the Set sub-menu are:

• ALL RESET - Off, On (off keeps current camera settings during memory card or battery change)

• Beep Sound - Off, On

• REC VIEW - Off, On

• Monitor Brightness - Adjust the brightness of the LCD's backlight via slider

• Date & Time - adjust date and time

The screen below appears when the left arrow option is selected on the 4-way navigation switch while in the Main Record Mode screen.

The Record Options under the Resolution sub-menu are as above. The higher the resolution the better the quality and the bigger the file size.

The screen below appears when the UP arrow option is selected on the 4-way navigation switch while in the Main Record Mode screen.

The Record Options under the Drive menu are:

• Single One Frame shot at a time, no matter how long the shutter button is depressed

• Continuous Shoots one frame after another until the buffer or memory card is full.
  (up to 1.5 frames per second and max of 8 frames in HQ mode)

• Movie Places the camera in MOVIE mode.
  To change the Resolution of the Movie mode,
  then go to the Resolution mode under the Main Record menu.

The screen below appears when the DOWN arrow option is selected on the 4-way navigation switch while in the Main Record Mode screen.

The Record Options under the Function menu are:

• 2 in 1 One half size frame shot at a time,
  after the second frame they are merged side by side

• Portrait Mode Sets the best exposure mode for portraits

• Panorama Mode Accessible only if Olympus brand Smart Media Card Used
  Allows up to 10 frames stitchable with Camedia Master Software
