It shares the same, small size, sexy aluminum body and superb 1280x1024 image quality *plus* it now has a high-quality Fujinon 3X optical zoom lens. It's hidden behind that automatically-closing lens cover and can be seen in the next photo below.

Here's the new Fujinon 3X zoom lens which just slightly protrudes from the camera body. Fuji held off adding a zoom lens to the MX-700 until they came up with a new process to create high quality aspherical lenses small enough to compliment the diminuitive size of the camera.
Besides covering the equivalent focal range of 35-114mm, the new
zoom lens also has a macro (closeup) capability of 9.8 to 31.5 inches.
See some MX-1700 macro samples.
Here's a picture of the Fuji MX-600 zoom lens on the left and the
new and incredibly small MX-1700 3x zoom lens on the right.
The 2" high-definition color LCD, buttons and 4-way switch are very similar in appearance and function to the ones found on the MX-700. The only real difference is that the upper and lower positions of the 4-way switch now operates the zoom lens.
Even though all of the buttons on this camera were labeled in
Japanese I found it very easy to operate as I have reviewed quite
a few new Fuji cameras in the last couple of weeks.
On top of the camera is the On/Off switch and the Main Command Dial
that is slightly recessed into the body. The modes are (counter
clockwise from 11 o'clock) Self timer, Setup, Manual Record,
Automatic Record, Playback and PC Connect.
The MX-1700 ships with Fujifilm's NP-80 lithium rechargeable
battery pack and combination AC adapter and charger.
The I/O ports are similar to those found on all the other Fujifilm
digicams and includes a Digital (RS-232 serial) port for connection
to a PC or Mac computer. The Video Out ports delivers a NTSC video
signal for playback on a TV set or VCR. The DC In 5v port is where
the AC adapter/battery charger unit plugs in to the camera.
The SmartMedia memory cards (up to 64MB) fit into a small slot hidden behind a spring-loaded door next to the I/O ports. The cards pop halfway out when pressed inward which makes them very easy to remove. |
