Anyone who has ever tried using the LCD screen on their digicam out in
the bright sunlight knows what they need - they need a shade!
![]() Jess Russell makes a very inexpensive LCD Sun Shade called the JAR Sun Shield that was originally made only for the Sony Mavica digital cameras. Well, yours truly talked him into making a smaller sun shield for the Nikon Coolpix 900, 900s and 950 cameras.
The best part besides that it works great is that it only costs $10.00
and that includes shipping via the USPS! If ordering for the Nikon
cameras be sure to let Jess know or else you might end up with one made
for a Mavica.

The JAR Sunshield does not interfere with the swiveling lens portion of the
Nikon 950 in any way.

Here's the three velcro strips that you put around your LCD screen to
attach the JAR Sun Shield -- it's the same three strips you use for
attaching the Xtend-a-View loupe
magnifier/sun shade! If you have both shades you can now easily
switch back and forth between them.

The result is an easy to see LCD screen
even with bright and harsh overhead lighting. And as you can see,
there is also ample room to access the control buttons too.

Pictured here is the new (April 2000) 4-sided JAR Shield for the Coolpix 950.
It blocks reflections coming from the bottom as well as the top and sides
yet it still allows access to the buttons above and below the LCD screen.

When you're not using the JAR Sun Shield it folds perfectly flat for
easy storage in your camera bag.

Steve's Digi-RatingI give the JAR Sun Shield 5 (out of a possible 5) digicams! It's very inexpensive, it works well and it only takes a few minutes to install via three, narrow strips of velcro. It can be mounted on more than one digicam and folds flat for easy storage. I won't kid you, it's not perfect, what is? If there is a lot of light bouncing or reflecting off of things behind you it isn't going to stop that from getting on the LCD. It does work very well most of the time and it sure beats using the 950's LCD outdoors _without_ it ! |
