![]() The Fuji FinePix 2400 Zoom is the 2.1-megapixel update of the FinePix 1400 Zoom. On the outside they have identical silver and black plastic bodies that are lightweight yet highly durable. The camera's 3x optical zoom lens is smooth and quiet in operation and has a sliding cover that protects it when you're not taking pictures. The 2400 Zoom is small enough to slide into your pants pocket or it can easily be carried around for hours with little to no fatigue.
The 2.1 million pixel CCD imager yields finished images with a maximum size of 1600
x 1200 pixels in three different levels of JPEG compression (Fine, Normal or Basic).
The user can also capture in smaller 1280 x 960 or 640 x 480 image sizes to extend
your storage capability. The sensitivity of the imager is
rated at ISO 125 with EV compensation of +1.5 to -0.9 available in the manual record
mode. White balance is also user adjustable with an automatic setting and six other
presets when in manual operation. Exposure metering is via Fuji's 64-zone TTL
(through the lens) system.

The FinePix 2400 Zoom has a 1.6-inch color LCD but no monochrome data LCD, any
changes made in manual mode must be accomplished on the color LCD. Outdoors
in the sunlight it is difficult to see and even indoors it can be a challenge as the
lettering is quite small. It's OK for reviewing images (except outdoors), a
4x zoom playback option lets you scroll around the magnified picture. If used as
the viewfinder the refresh rate is near realtime, there is no jerky display or
smearing as the camera is panned around.

The obviously "different" styling of this camera is apparent from this view.
It somewhat resembles the Olympus cameras but it's the first we have seen of
this design from Fuji.
![]()
The I/O ports are on the left side. There's a DC IN for the optional AC power adapter
and the USB port for
downloading to the computer. Sorry no video out.
![]()
The bottom of the camera is flat and works well on a tripod but the tripod socket
is not positioned in the center of balance or the nodal point of the camera.
![]()
The optical viewfinder is large but it has a fairly narrow viewing angle. There is
no diopter adjustment. Left-eyed shooters will find their nose dead-center in the
color LCD. The LED indicates autofocus condition and when the camera is
processing an image.
![]() The DISP button turns on the LCD display or cycles through the display options in record modes. In Play mode it toggles you from full screen to thumbnail index mode. The lightning bolt is the flash control (auto, off, forced on, redeye and slow-sync). The BACK and MENU/OK buttons are for navigating the menus and confirming or cancelling actions. On the far right are the navigation buttons. The left and right are for selecting menus options, the center one is used as an Up and Down navigation button and also doubles as the zoom lens control.
On top is the Mode/Power switch that puts the camera in Record or Play mode.
Next to that is the shutter release.
![]()
The SmartMedia card access is via a small door on the right side. The 2400 Zoom
comes with an 8MB card and can use any capacity 3.3v card up to 64MB.
![]() Powered by four AA size batteries, the best results will be seen with NiMH rechargeables. |
