Sony's CyberShot Pro DSC-D770 is the updated model of the older DSC-D700 and shares all of its specifications including the same ½-inch Progressive Scan Wfine CCD imager and RGB color filter. New to the D770 is an ISO 50 mode, an improved autofocus system, better image processing alogrythms for sharper pictures, a histogram display that shows luminosity and color levels in an image, and a darker gray colored body.

The D770 is a true SLR with a large eye-level viewfinder, a 2.5-inch color LCD, a 5X zoom lens with manual focus and zoom control rings, variable sensitivity (ISO 50-400), a builtin popup flash plus a hot shoe for external "clip on" flash units, JPG or TIF image capture (1344 x 1024 pixels), PC ATA Type II card storage (CompactFlash, SmartMedia or MemorySticks in PCMCIA adapter -- will NOT work with IBM Microdrives) and powered by a Sony NP-F550 InfoLITHIUM rechargeable battery.

(Note: The only difference between the Sony DSC-D770 and the DKC-FP3 is that the FP3 has a black body and a FireWire IEEE-1394 data interface.)

This is a color LCD in the tradition of Sony camcorders -- it's a 2.5-inch diagonal screen that's bright enough to be readable anywhere except in absolutely direct sunlight and even then it is usable to a certain degree.

The user controls have been ergonomically placed on the camera and it doesn't take long to get used to what knob does what. The newer D770's body is a darker gray color than the D700 and the button and knob labels are much easier to read now.

A perfectly flat bottom, metal tripod socket and a battery door that is accessible when used on most tripods.

Don't expect to take this camera anywhere unless you are prepared to become a salesman for Sony -- its cool looks attracts attention faster than a red Ferrari going three hundred miles an hour!

The D770 sports a 5X optical zoom, F2-2.4, 5.2-26mm (35mm equiv 28-140mm) with 13 elements in 10 groups. It is threaded for 62mm filters. The minimum object distance is 20cm in all focal lengths, macro is automatic.

Technical detail on the aperture: F2-11 (Wide), F2.4-11 (Tele) in 21 steps.

You say you want real manual control?   Well, here it is!   A manual zoom and a manual focusing ring.

The D770 sports a builtin popup flash that can be set for TTL auto, always on or disabled.  A more powerful external flash can be used with the hot shoe mount on top of the camera.
